Chapter on the Rulings on Forgetfulness (Ahkam al-Sahw)

From him, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn Abi Hamzah from Abu Basir, who said: A man said to Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, while I was listening: "May I be your ransom! I am very forgetful in prayer." Imam عليه السلام said: "And is there anyone who is safe from it?" I said: "I do not think anyone is more forgetful than I am." Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, said: "O Aba Muhammad, a servant’s prayer may be raised for him as a third, or a half, or three-quarters, or less, or more, according to the extent of his forgetfulness in it. But it is completed for him through the supererogatory prayers." Then Abu Basir said to Imam عليه السلام: "I see that the supererogatory prayers should never be abandoned under any circumstance." Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, said: "Yes, indeed."
