Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad from Mu‘alla ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Wasiti from Qasim al-Sayqal, who said:
I wrote to (Imam) al-Ridha عليه السلام, peace be upon him, saying: “I work in making scabbards for swords from the skins of dead donkeys, and these skins touch my clothes, can I pray in them?” Imam عليه السلام wrote back to me: "Designate a specific garment for your prayer." Then I wrote to Abu Ja‘far عليه السلام, peace be upon him, saying: “I had written to your father عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about such-and-such, and it was difficult for me, so I began to make them from the skins of wild donkeys that had been slaughtered according to proper Islamic method (dhakiyyah).” Imam عليه السلام wrote back to me: "All righteous deeds are accompanied by patience, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى have mercy on you. If what you work with is from wild animals properly slaughtered (dhakiyyah), then there is no harm."
