Chapter on the Manner of Prayer, Explanation of the Fifty-One Rak‘ahs; The Order, Recitation, Tasbih in Bowing and Prostration, Qunut, and What is Obligatory and Recommended Therein

Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Hammad, from Hariz, from Zurarah: (It was said) “When a woman stands for prayer, she joins her feet together and does not spread them apart, and she brings her hands close to her chest due to the presence of her breasts. When she bows, she places her hands above her knees, on her thighs, so that she does not bend too much and raise her backside. When she sits, she sits on her buttocks as a man does. When she moves into prostration, she begins by sitting and placing her knees down before her hands. Then she prostrates closely to the ground. When she is in her sitting posture, she brings her thighs together and lifts her knees off the ground. When she rises, she rises smoothly, without first lifting her backside.”
