As for what was narrated by Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from Muhammad ibn Yahya, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id, from Uthman ibn ‘Isa, from Mansur ibn Hazim, from Bakr ibn Habib, who said: I asked Abu Ja‘far عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about the ‘tashahhud’. Imam عليه السلام said: “If it were as they say, obligatory upon the people, they would have perished. Rather, the people used to say the simplest of what they knew. If you praise Allah سبحانه وتعالى, it suffices you.”
