Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Ali ibn al-Hakam, from Abu Ayyub al-Khazzaz, from Muhammad ibn Muslim, who said: I said to Abu Abdillah عليه السلام: “The ‘tashahhud’ in prayer?” Imam عليه السلام said: “Twice.” I said: “And how is it said twice?” Imam عليه السلام said: “When you sit upright, say: ‘Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan Abduhu wa rasuluh,’ then you exit (complete the prayer).” I said: “What about the statement of the servant: ‘al-tahiyyatu lillah wa al-salawatu al-tayyibat lillah’?” Imam عليه السلام said: “That is a graceful form of supplication, a kindness from the servant by which his Lord shows him grace.”
