Al-‘Ala’ narrated from Muhammad ibn Muslim, who said: Abu Ja‘far عليه السلام said to me: “When a man lies down on his right side, let him say: ‘In the Name of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. O Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I submit my soul to You عز وجل, and I turn my face to You عز وجل, and I entrust my affairs to You عز وجل, and I rely upon You عز وجل. I seek refuge in You عز وجل out of fear of You عز وجل and longing toward You عز وجل. There is no refuge and no escape from You عز وجل except to You عز وجل. I believe in Your عز وجل Book which You عز وجل have revealed, and in Your عز وجل Messenger صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم whom You have sent.’ Then let him recite the Tasbih of (Sayyidah) Fatimah al-Zahra صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, peace be upon her. And whoever experiences fear or disturbance at the time of sleep, let him recite, when he goes to his bed, the two Surahs of seeking refuge (‘al-Mu‘awwidhatayn’) and ‘Ayat al-Kursi’.”
