Chapter on the Virtue of the Month of Ramadan and the Prayers Within It in Addition to the Recommended Prayers Mentioned in the Other Months
And from him, from Ibn Abi Umayr from Muhammad ibn al-Hakam, the brother of Hisham, from Umar ibn Yazid from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said:
Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام said: “Indeed, Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Exalted, has on every day of the Month of Ramadan, those whom He عز وجل frees from the Fire, except one who breaks his fast with intoxicants, or one who harbors enmity (a quarrelsome person), or one who plays with two pieces.” I asked: “What is meant by the one who plays with two pieces?” Imam عليه السلام said: “Chess (al-shitranj).”
