Chapter on the Prayer over the Dead

Ali ibn al-Husayn, from Sa’ad ibn Abdillah, from al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Khashshab, from Ghiyath ibn Kallub ibn Fayhas al-Bajali, from Ishaq ibn Ammar, from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said: Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام said: “Indeed, the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, performed the funeral prayer over a deceased person. When Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم finished, a group of people came and said; ‘O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, we missed the prayer over him.’ So the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, said: ‘A funeral is not prayed over twice. Supplicate for him and say good things’.”
