Chapter on the Prayer over the Dead

Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yahya from Abu Ja’far from his father from Wahb ibn Wahb from Imam Ja’far عليه السلام from his father عليه السلام, peace be upon them both: Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام said: “Indeed, the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, prayed over a funeral. When Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم finished, a group of people came to Him صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and said: ‘O’ Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, we did not catch the prayer (Salat Al Mayyit) over it.’ Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم said: ‘The funeral is not prayed over twice, but you may supplicate for it (the deceased)’.”
