Chapter on the Virtue of Mosques and Prayer Within Them, and the Virtue of Congregational Prayer and Its Rulings

From him, from Ali ibn Hadid from Jamil from Zurarah who said: I asked one of the two Imams عليه السلام, peace be upon them, about an imam (of prayer) who led a group in prayer, then remembered that he was not in a state of wudu. So he withdrew and took the hand of a man, brought him forward, and put him in front. But the one who was brought forward did not know what the group had already prayed. Imam عليه السلام said: “He should lead them in prayer, and if he makes a mistake, the group should say ‘SubhanAllah’ to alert him, and he continues based on the prayer of the one who was before him.”
