Chapter on the Virtue of Mosques and Prayer Within Them, and the Virtue of Congregational Prayer and Its Rulings

From him, from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Sulaym al-Farra’ from Dawud who said: I asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about a man who is the muezzin of a mosque in a city and also its imam (of prayer). So when Friday comes, he performs the afternoon (Asr) prayer at its proper time, What should he do about his mosque? Imam عليه السلام said: “Pray the afternoon (Asr) prayer at its proper time. Then, when that time comes, in which the people of the city give the call to prayer, you too give the adhan and lead them in prayer at the time in which the people of your city pray.”
