Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahbub, from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, from al-Hasan ibn Mahbub, from Umar ibn Yazid, who said:
I (narrator) heard a man from the people of the mountain asking Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about ‘a man who took dead land (mawat) which its people had abandoned, then he cultivated it, dug its rivers, built houses in it, and planted palms and trees in it.’ So Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, said: “The Commander of the Believers عليه السلام, peace be upon him, used to say: 'Whoever from the believers revives land, then it belongs to him, and upon him is its land tax (tasq), which he pays to the Imam (of the time) in the state of truce. Then when the Qa'im (ajf), peace be upon him, appears, let him prepare himself for it (dead land) to be taken from him.'"
