Chapter on Obligation of Fasting

And from him, from Muhammad ibn Ubayd ibn Utbah, from al-Fadl ibn Dukayn Abu Nuaym, who said: Abd al-Salam ibn Harb narrated to us, from Ayyub al-Sijistani, from Abu Qilabah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, said: “The month of Ramadan has come to you, a blessed month, a month in which the almighty Allah سبحانه وتعالى has made fasting obligatory upon you. In it the gates of the Gardens are opened, and in it the devils are shackled. In it is ‘the Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.’ (Surah Al-Qadr 97:3) Whoever is deprived of it (Night of Decree) has indeed been deprived.”
