Chapter on Merit of the Pre-Dawn Meal (Suhur) and What It Is Recommended That the Breaking of the Fast Be upon
Al-Husayn ibn Said, from al-Hasan, from Zurah, from Samaah, who said:
I asked Imam عليه السلام about ‘the pre-dawn meal (al-suhur) for one who intends to fast.’ Imam عليه السلام said: “As for (month of) Ramadan, the merit is in the pre-dawn meal (al-suhur), even if only with a drink of water. As for voluntary fasting outside (month of) Ramadan, whoever wishes to take the pre-dawn meal, let him do so, and whoever does not do so, there is no problem.”
