Chapter on Ruling of the Traveller and the Sick Person Regarding Fasting

And that which Sa’ad ibn Abdullah narrated from Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Faddal, from Amr ibn Said al-Madaini, from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah, from Ammar al-Sabati, who said: I (narrator) asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about ‘a man who goes out for a need of his while he does not intend travel, then he proceeds in that and the proceeding extends with him until he proceeds eight farsakhs. What should he do regarding his prayer?’ Imam عليه السلام said: “He shortens (the prayer) and does not complete the prayer until he returns to his house.”
