Chapter on Ruling of the Traveller and the Sick Person Regarding Fasting

Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Faddal, from Ali ibn Asbat, from Alaa ibn Razin al-Qalla, from Muhammad ibn Muslim: I asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام about ‘zihar’ concerning a free woman and a female slave.’ Imam عليه السلام said: “Yes.” He (narrator) said: “Then if he performs zihar in Shaban and does not find anything with which to free a slave?” – meaning as expiation for this sin. Imam عليه السلام said: “He waits until he fasts (month of) Ramadan, then he fasts two consecutive months. And if he performs zihar while he is travelling, he breaks the fast until he arrives. And if he fasts, then comes upon wealth that he owns, then let him make up that which he began.”
