Chapter on Ruling of the Traveller and the Sick Person Regarding Fasting

And what also indicates it is what al-Husayn ibn Said narrated from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad al-Jawhari, from Ali ibn Abi Hamzah, from Abu Ibrahim عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said: I (narrator) asked Imam عليه السلام about ‘a man who made it binding upon himself to fast a month in al-Kufah, a month in al-Madinah, and a month in Makkah because of an affliction with which he was afflicted. Then it was decreed for him that he fasted a month in al-Kufah and entered al-Madinah, where he fasted eighteen days, but the camel-driver (al-jammal) did not stay for him.’ Imam عليه السلام said: “He fasts what remains upon him when he reaches his town.”
