Muhammad ibn Yaqub, from a number of our companions, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Ibn Mahbub, from al-Harith ibn Muhammad, from Burayd al-Ijli, from Abu Ja’far عليه السلام, peace be upon him:
(Imam عليه السلام was asked) regarding ‘a man who came (intimate relations) to his wife on a day that he was making up from the month of Ramadan.’ Imam عليه السلام said: “If he came to his wife before the decline of the sun, then there is nothing upon him except a day in place of a day. And if he came to his wife on a day after the decline of the sun, then upon him is to give charity to ten poor persons. If he is not able, he fasts a day in place of a day, and fasts three days as an expiation for what he did.”
