Chapter on Making Up the Month of Ramadan, and the Ruling of One Who Breaks the Fast in It Intentionally and Forgetfully, and One upon Whom Fasting Two Consecutive Months Is Obligatory and He Breaks the Fast during Them, or upon Whom There Is a Vow Regarding Fasting
Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Saffar also narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad and Abdullah ibn Muhammad, from Ali ibn Mahziyar, who said:
‘Bandar’, the client (mawla) of Idris, wrote: “My master, I vowed to fast every Saturday. If I do not fast it, what expiation is binding upon me?” So the Imam عليه السلام, peace be upon him, wrote, and I (narrator) read it: “Do not leave it except because of an illness. You are not required to fast it during travel or illness unless you had intended that. And if you broke the fast on it without an illness, then give charity, for each day, to seven poor people. We ask Allah سبحانه وتعالى for success in what Allah سبحانه وتعالى loves and is pleased with.”
