Chapter on Making Up the Month of Ramadan, and the Ruling of One Who Breaks the Fast in It Intentionally and Forgetfully, and One upon Whom Fasting Two Consecutive Months Is Obligatory and He Breaks the Fast during Them, or upon Whom There Is a Vow Regarding Fasting
Muhammad ibn Yaqub, from a number of our companions, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Ashyam, who said:
Al-Husayn wrote to Imam al-Ridha عليه السلام, peace be upon him: “May I be made your ransom, a man vowed to fast known days, so he fasted some of them, then became ill and broke the fast. Does he begin his fast anew, or does he count what has passed?” So the Imam عليه السلام, peace be upon him, wrote: “He counts what has passed.”
