Chapter on Intention of Fasting

Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from al-Barqi, from Ibn Abi Umayr, from Hisham ibn Salim, from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said: Imam عليه السلام said: “The Commander of the Faithful عليه السلام, peace be upon him, would enter upon his family and say, ‘Do you have anything (to eat)? Otherwise, I will fast.’ If they had anything (to eat), they would bring it to him, and otherwise, Imam Ali عليه السلام would fast.”
