مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى رَفَعَهُ عَنْ أَبَانٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ فَتَاةٌ مِنَّا بِهَا قَرْحَةٌ فِي جَوْفِهَا وَ اَلدَّمُ سَائِلٌ لاَ تَدْرِي مِنْ دَمِ اَلْحَيْضِ أَوْ مِنْ دَمِ اَلْقَرْحَةِ فَقَالَ« مُرْهَا فَلْتَسْتَلْقِ عَلَى ظَهْرِهَا وَ تَرْفَعُ رِجْلَيْهَا وَ تَسْتَدْخِلُ إِصْبَعَهَا اَلْوُسْطَى فَإِنْ خَرَجَ اَلدَّمُ مِنَ اَلْجَانِبِ اَلْأَيْسَرِ فَهُوَ مِنَ اَلْحَيْضِ وَ إِنْ خَرَجَ مِنَ اَلْجَانِبِ اَلْأَيْمَنِ فَهُوَ مِنَ اَلْقَرْحَةِ».
Muhammad bin Yahya, who raised it to Aban, who said:
I said to Abu Abdullah عليه السلام: "A young girl among us has a sore inside her body, and blood is flowing. She does not know whether it is menstrual blood or from the sore." Imam عليه السلام said: "Tell her to lie on her back, raise her legs, and insert her middle finger. If the blood comes from the left side, it is menstrual blood. If it comes from the right side, it is from the sore."
