Chapter on Etiquettes of Causes Requiring Purification

مَا أَخْبَرَنِي بِهِ اَلشَّيْخُ أَيَّدَهُ اَللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ اَلْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جَنَاحٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ اَلْجَعْفَرِيِّ قَالَ: بِتُّ مَعَ اَلرِّضَا عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ فِي سَفْحِ جَبَلٍ فَلَمَّا كَانَ آخِرُ اَللَّيْلِ قَامَ فَتَنَحَّى وَ صَارَ عَلَى مَوْضِعٍ مُرْتَفِعٍ فَبَالَ وَ تَوَضَّأَ وَقَالَ «مِنْ فِقْهِ اَلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَرْتَادَ لِمَوْضِعِ بَوْلِهِ وَ بَسَطَ سَرَاوِيلَهُ وَ قَامَ عَلَيْهِ وَ صَلَّى صَلاَةَ اَللَّيْلِ».
Narrated to me by the Shaykh (Al-Mufid), may Allah سبحانه وتعالى support him, from Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Al-Hasan, from his father, from Muhammad bin Yahya, from Muhammad bin Ali bin Mahbub, from Ahmad bin Muhammad, from Sa'id bin Janah, from some of our companions, from Sulayman Al-Ja'fari, who said:
(Narrator said) I spent the night with Imam Al-Ridha عليه السلام at the base of a mountain. Toward the end of the night, Imam عليه السلام rose, moved to an elevated spot, urinated, performed wudu (ablution), and said: 'Part of a person's understanding is to carefully select the place where they urinate.' Imam عليه السلام then spread out his trousers, stood to pray, and performed the Night Prayer (Salat al-Layl).
