Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām|Volume 2|Book 1|Chapter 14
From him, from Muhammad ibn Al-Husayn, from Ali ibn Asbat, from Ali ibn Ja'far who said:
I asked Abu Al-Hasan عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about giving the Adhan from the minaret, is it a Sunnah? Imam عليه السلام said: "The Adhan was given for the Prophet, may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family, on the ground, and at that time there was no minaret."
