Chapter on the Manner of Prayer, Its Description and What is Obligatory and Recommended

From him, from Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Yaqtin, from his brother Al-Husayn ibn Ali, from their father Ali ibn Yaqtin who said: I asked Abu Al-Hasan عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about combining two Surahs in the obligatory and the supererogatory prayers. Imam عليه السلام said: "There is no harm." And (Imam عليه السلام was asked) about reciting part of a Surah. Imam عليه السلام said: "I dislike that, but there is no harm in it for the supererogatory prayers." And (Imam عليه السلام was asked) about the two rak'ahs in which the Imam (of prayer) remains silent, should ‘Surah Al-Hamd’ be recited in them when one is following an Imam (of prayer)? Imam عليه السلام said: "If you recite, there is no harm; and if you remain silent, there is no harm."
