Chapter on the Manner of Prayer, Explanation of the Fifty-One Rak‘ahs; The Order, Recitation, Tasbih in Bowing and Prostration, Qunut, and What is Obligatory and Recommended Therein

Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Faddal, from Ibn Bukayr, from Abu Basir, who said: I asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام about ‘qunut’. Imam عليه السلام said: “In that which you recite aloud.” So I said: “I asked your father عليه السلام about that, and Imam عليه السلام said: ‘In all five prayers.’” Imam عليه السلام said: “May Allah سبحانه وتعالى have mercy on my father عليه السلام. The companions of my father عليه السلام came to him and asked him, so He عليه السلام informed them of the truth. Then they came to me full of doubts, so I gave them a ruling based on ‘taqiyyah’ (precautionary dissimulation).”
