Chapter on the Manner of Prayer, Explanation of the Fifty-One Rak‘ahs; The Order, Recitation, Tasbih in Bowing and Prostration, Qunut, and What is Obligatory and Recommended Therein

Sa‘d, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Faddal, from Abdullah ibn Bukayr, from Ali ibn Hanzalah, from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, who said: I asked Him عليه السلام about the last two rak‘ahs, what should I do in them? Imam عليه السلام said: “If you wish, recite the Opening of the Book (‘Surat al-Fatihah’), and if you wish, remember Allah سبحانه وتعالى, it is the same.” I asked: “Which of the two is better?” Imam عليه السلام said: “By Allah سبحانه وتعالى, they are the same. If you wish, you may glorify (‘tasbih’), and if you wish, you may recite.”
