Chapter on the Prayer of the Two Eids

Al-Husayn ibn Said from Yaqub ibn Yaqtin who said: I asked the Servant (of Allah سبحانه وتعالى), Imam al-Kadhim عليه السلام peace be upon him, about the takbir in the two Eids, whether it is before or after the recitation and how many takbirs are in the first and in the second (rak’ah), and about the supplication between them, and whether there is qunut in them or not. Imam عليه السلام said: “The takbir of the two Eids in prayer is before the sermon. He pronounces a takbirah with which he opens the prayer, then he recites, then he says five takbirs and makes supplication between them, then he says another takbirah and bows with it so that is seven takbirs including the one with which he began. Then in the second (rak’ah), he says five takbirs, he stands and recites, then says four takbirs and supplicates between them, then says the fifth takbirah.”
