Chapter on the Prayer During Travel

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Mahbub from al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abbas ibn Amir from Aban ibn Uthman from Zurarah from Abu Ja’far عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said: I asked Imam al-Baqir عليه السلام about a man who goes out, from his family with falcons, hawks, and dogs, spending a night or two or three nights for recreation. Should he shorten his prayer or not? Imam عليه السلام said: “Indeed, he has gone out for amusement; he does not shorten (the prayer).” I asked: “A man accompanies his brother for a day or two, during the Month of Ramadan.” Imam عليه السلام said: “He breaks his fast and shortens the prayer, for that is a right upon him (to accompany his brother or brother in faith).”
