Chapter on the Prayer During Travel

From him, from al-Abbas ibn Ma‘ruf, from Ali ibn Mahziyar, from Ayyub ibn Nuh, from Abdillah ibn al-Mughira, from ‘Utaybah, from Ibrahim ibn Maymun, from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him, who said: Imam al-Sadiq عليه السلام said: “If you pray while you are walking, you pronounce the takbir, then walk and recite. When you want to bow, you indicate the bowing (ruku‘) with a gesture, then you indicate the prostration (sujud) with a gesture. And there is no supererogatory (voluntary) prayer in travel.”
