Chapter on Additions Regarding Zakat

Muhammad ibn Ya'qub, from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Hammad, from Hariz, from Zurarah, Muhammad ibn Muslim, and Abu Basir, from Abu Ja’far عليه السلام, peace be upon him: Imam عليه السلام was asked regarding the saying of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, Mighty and Majestic: “And give its due on the day of its harvest.” (Surah al-An’am 6:141) They (narrators) all said: “Abu Ja’far عليه السلام, peace be upon him, said: ‘This is from charity: he gives the needy person a handful after a handful, and at the cutting of the dates, a handful after a handful, until he finishes. He leaves for the guard a known wage, and he leaves from the palm-trees Mi'afar and Umm Ju'rur (types of palm/date); And he leaves for the guard who is in the orchard one date-cluster, two date-clusters, or three, for his guarding it.’"
