Chapter on Ruling of the Traveller and the Sick Person Regarding Fasting

Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, from Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Ashyam, from Sulayman ibn Jafar al-Jafari, who said: I (narrator) asked Abu al-Hasan al-Ridha عليه السلام, peace be upon him, about ‘a man who intends to travel in the month of Ramadan, then leaves his family (home) after he has entered the morning.’ Imam عليه السلام said: “If he entered the morning among his family, then fasting that day has become obligatory upon him, unless he travels by night, a night journey (daljah).”
