Muhammad ibn Yaqub, from Muhammad ibn Ismail, from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan, from Safwan ibn Yahya, from Mansur ibn Hazim, from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام, peace be upon him:
Imam عليه السلام was asked regarding ‘a man who fasted in (expiation for) zihar during Shaban, then the month of Ramadan overtook him.’ Imam عليه السلام said: “He fasts the month of Ramadan and begins the fast anew. But if he fasted in (expiation for) zihar and exceeded half (one month) by one day, he builds upon it and makes up the remainder.”
