The Signs of the Mahdī’s Reappearance

Muḥammad b. Muʿqal al-Qarmīsīnī, from Muḥammad b. Zayd al-Jazarī, from Ibrāhīm b. Isḥāq al-Nahāwandī, from ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥammād, from ʿAmrū b. Shimr, from Jābir, from Abī ʿAbd Allāh عليه السلام. Jābir narrated: “I said: “Why was Fāṭima al-Zahrāʾ named Zahrāʾ (the Resplendent)?,” so he replied: “Because Allāh عز وجل created her from the light of His exaltedness. So, when she radiated and thereby lit up the heavens and the earth with her light, overwhelming the angels’ eyes and prompting them to fall down into prostration to Allāh, they said: “O’ Deity of ours and our Master, what is this light?,” whereupon Allāh revealed to them: “This is a light from My light, which I have caused to reside tranquilly in My heaven, and I created it from My exaltedness. I will bring it out from the loins of one of My Prophets, having favoured him over the totality of the Prophets, and bring forth from that light Imams who uphold My ordinance, and guide to My truth. I have appointed them as My caliphs upon My earth, after the cessation of My revelations.”
