Chapter on Supplication Between the Units of Prayer (Rak‘at)

Ali ibn Hatim from Muhammad ibn Ja’far from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Muhammad ibn Hammad from his father from Abu Abdillah عليه السلام from his father عليه السلام from Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn عليه السلام, who said: Imam Zayn al-Abidin عليه السلام said: “O’ Allah سبحانه وتعالى, I ask You عز وجل by Your mercy through which none can attain anything from You عز وجل except by Your pleasure, by abstaining from disobedience to You عز وجل, And by entering into all that pleases You عز وجل and for deliverance from every entanglement, and an exit from every arrogance, And for pardon for every evil deed that comes from me whether intentionally or by mistake, or by thoughts that occurred to me and I forgot. That I ask You عز وجل for a fear (of You عز وجل) through which You عز وجل help me to uphold the boundaries of Your pleasure. And I ask You عز وجل to guide me to act upon the best of what I know, and to leave the worst of what I know. And I ask You عز وجل for protection from disobeying You عز وجل knowingly, or from erring in that which I do not know. And I ask You عز وجل for abundance in sustenance, and detachment from that which is a burden. And I ask You عز وجل for a clear exit from every doubt, and for triumph through correctness in every argument, and for truthfulness therein for me and upon me. And humble me by granting me fairness from myself in all situations in times of contentment and anger, in humility and generosity and enable me to abandon both the small and great of injustice in my words and deeds. And grant me the perfection of blessings in all matters, and the ability to show gratitude for them until You عز وجل are pleased, and even after Your pleasure. And grant me what is best in matters where goodness lies, through ease in all affairs and not through hardship. O’ Generous One!”
